Kosuke Okahara was born in 1980 and grew up in Tokyo, Japan. He started his career as a photographer after college graduation where he studied education.
Kosuke has been honored with several awards and grants including W.Eugene Smith Fellowship, Joop Swart Masterclass of World Press Photo, PDN’s 30 emerging photographers to watch, Sony World Photography Awards, and Prix Kodak. His clients include Time.com, Newsweek Japan, Wall Street Journal, Courrier International, Russian Reporter, foto8, Aera, among others. Kosuke’s photos have also been exhibited in various venus including galleries and international photo festivals.
He continues shooting the stories that touch him, such as the series shown below, Ibasyo. Ibasyo is a confronting series about auto-mutilation in young Japanese girls.
