Maarten Kuypers (1979) enjoys photographers like William Eggleston, Joel Sternfeld & Rob Hornstra and is always looking to connect the dots out in the world.

His work is themed around social criticism as he tries to convey stories which get people to think about what they see. As he says when we interviewed him:

…not the first view but the second one. I strive for an extra layer in every picture. Not a visual layer but a layer that will be visible with the context of the picture and will tell the story or will rise questions. If that is not in one of my picture I doesn’t have a meaning and then it’s just a ‘nice picture’

Kuypers is now working on a series of portraits on the Jewish Community of Antwerp and the Netherlands and below is his series Se Venden Parcelas.
Hit by the economic crisis, Spain’s coastal infrastructure shows empty, unbuilt lots. Kuypers’ series shows the lifeless and melancholic situation of these building sites.
